We get lured, thinking that artificial sweeteners are healthier than sugar based substitutes. In fact they play havoc on your health and wellbeing. Of course they are calorie free, but that does not equate with being healthy.
Known by different brand names, Aspartame is a chemical compound containing aspartic acid, phenylalanine and methanol. When Aspartame is stored for too long or when it is heated (wood alcohol is formed). Sure, you don’t want to eat this stuff. Sadly, though Aspartame has found its entry in some five thousand products worldwide including
- Cereals
- Soft drinks
- Instant Tea and Coffee
- Sugar free chewing gums
- Multi vitamins
- Milk drinks and shakes
- Table top sweeteners
- Instant breakfast
and so many more…
Symptoms attributed to Aspartame include vertigo, insomnia, memory loss, mood changes, numbness, blurred vision, slurred speech and many more. The worst is that the selling point of Aspartame is as a diet aid. Yet ironically, research suggest very clearly that sugar substitutes make little difference to the battle of the bulge. Artificial sweeteners are officially not recommended for pregnant women, children or babies. So, if it is not suitable for kids, it should not be used for anyone! If you see Sugarfree on the labels of processed food don’t be tempted as this junk needs to be left back on the shelf.
